This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned as integrated support to the function of OBDH Payload System Engineer in the Galileo Space Segment Procurement Office of the Galileo Programme Department, Directorate of the Galileo Programme and Navigationrelated Activities and will report to the Galileo FOC Payload Manager. Within the project guidelines and constraints, and under the supervision of the Galileo FOC Payload Manager, the Payload System and Digital Engineer will be responsible for participating in the definition, specification and verification of the navigation payload system activities with emphasis on the digital and signalrelated domains, including its aspects of telemetrytelecommand TMTC interfaces with the platform participating in the segment and intersegment project activities and reviews related to navigation payload systems contributing to the industrial monitoring of navigation payload and payload equipment development and production activities contributing to the early identification of problem areas and participating in their resolution in nonconformance and engineering boards supporting the navigation payload verification and validation activities in particular for environmental testing, endtoend testing, inorbit testing and operations supporting navigation payload security activities coordinating the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management in the appropriate areas of competence. The incumbent shall participate in periodic at least monthly meetings with the parent section and contribute to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, telecommunications or a related field. In addition, they should have substantial industrial experience in payload engineering and digital electronics, preferably during the CD phases of one or more projects. A good background in design, simulation, manufacturing and testing of payloads and payload equipment, such as instrument control units, payload computers and mass memory, is required, as well as a proven ability to work in a project team and experience of working with industry. Candidates should also be familiar with space applications of computers and data handling and communication systems and with the effects of the space environment. Knowledge of related ECSS engineering standards and space quality requirements is also required. A background in the radio navigation domain would be a significant asset. Applicants must be eligible for security clearance by their national security administration. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude towards solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 04 August 2014.
