(Telecompaper) NEC and its subsidiary NetCracker Technology announced that they have successfully completed a proof of concept for their virtualized customer-premises equipment (vCPE) at Portugal Telecom. The PoC took place in March. The PoC demonstrated and validated the NEC/NetCracker vCPE's ability to migrate IPv4 and IPv6 routing, address assignment and translation and other IP networking functions from end-user home gateways to Portugal Telecom's data centre. By implementing the vCPE, Portugal Telecom will be able to accelerate and simplify the integration and distribution of new consumer services as well as reduce the cost of provisioning and maintaining those offerings, NEC said.
