Although the FDA did not issue its strongest possible warning on laparoscopic power morcellators until late last month, the controversial surgical devices were already prompting widespread advertising by attorneys seeking clients who may have been harmed by the products. Spending by lawyers jumped 77% percent in October to $1.5 million, from $860,000 in September, according to The Silverstein Group Mass Tort Ad Watch , which noted this was the largest amount of monthly advertising to target the devices.
