A friend who is just going into sugarcane farming asked me whether there are protective measures that sugar producers can expect when the tariff barrier on imports of agricultural products come down by January 1, 2015. I said there is no tariff barrier since the government has entered into an agreement with other nations on the lifting of this protective wall for local products.
