A Propulsion Design Engineer Vacancy has arisen with Astrium in Stevenage. The propulsion department is responsible for the RD, conception, design, analysis, test planning, launch and inorbit support of spacecraft propulsion systems. Typically components such as engines, valves and tanks are procured from external suppliers they are assembled into the systems at Stevenage and then system tested at various sites across Europe. This is all prior to the support provided for the launch campaign at launch sites across the globe and then the subsequence onstation or inflight operations. The Principle Propulsion Design Engineer will be required to Perform the role of Propulsion Architect in the generation of system concepts. Tasks include component selection, system analyses and the generation of the associated documents for proposals, and design reviews. Perform analyses and build theoretical models relating to gaseous and liquid pressure drop theory for pipes, components and orifices, as well as thermodynamic behaviour of fluids. It will be necessary to utilise existing EADS Astrium code or to create purpose built models and analyses using commercial software. Work with 3D CATIA engineers in order to generate mechanical layouts, as well as detail design and manufacturing data. Present the propulsion system design to customers with the use of presentations and formal design review packs and meetings. Similarly the engineer has to assist in the review of test results from the various phases of build subsystemspacecraft. Support testing, spacecraft launch and operation. With component suppliers, testing facilities and launch sites spread throughout the world it will be necessary for the propulsion engineer to travel.
