The properties of a Schottky diode can be used to transfer signals to higher or lower frequencies in an RF system, and to generate a low frequency voltage that is proportional to the amplitude of a higher frequency signal. This application note takes a look at the physical and electrical properties of Schottky mixer and detector diodes, and illustrates how they are used in receiving circuits.
