The Mission The Product Assurance and Safety Officer PASO will act as resident consultant in our customers facility in Bremen, Germany. She or he will participate in the preparation, execution and monitoring of manintheloop spacecraft operations. We hope to fill this fulltime, permanent position prior to the end of 2013. The PASO maintains ongoing awareness of participates in all aspects related to safety of those onboard operations which are controlled by the Columbus Control Centre Operations preparation Support preparation and planning of complex astronaut onboard activities analysing for potential impact on safety Actively contribute to safety related review boards and management forums with external organisations, including ESA and NASA Mentor new team members and provide internal crosstraining on safety. Operations implementation Maintain organisational awareness of the ongoing and planned operations onboard Columbus and the ISS, as far as Columbus systems, payloads, or operations might be affected Participate in relevant realtime and near realtime processes, e.g., NASA and ESA flight note review, chit process, near realtime anomaly resolution process Assess anomalies for safety impact and risk Provide the product assurance and safety viewpoint at anomaly resolution meetings and review boards Verify acceptability and notify the flight control team in case of changes to operations hazard controls Performance of daily safety briefings Report to management on progress in the areas of product assurance and safety Provide support to critical operations, including occasional support outside normal working hours. Most operations will be performed from Bremen, but occasional travel to Oberpfaffenhofen can be anticipated. This is a fulltime and permanent position with a planned starting date to the end of 2013. Your Qualifications Essential skills are A masters degree in aerospace engineering, or equivalent Work experience in space flight operations. Alternatively, work experience in human space flight safety English Fluency spoken and written, both in formal and informal situations. Please note that English is the working language. Demonstrable autonomy in your current position Reliability and meticulousness. Desirable skills are Previous experience in a similar consultancy role, i.e., as resident consultant operating onsite within a customer organisation Exposure to product assurance requirements, especially as they relate to space operations andor manned space missions Background with the European Space Agency, the German Space Operations Centre, andor the National Aeronautic and Space Agency Some experience in mentoring and monitoring Specific experience with the Columbus programme Possession of documentationpermits for working and living in Germany Previous exposure to Germany, or else previous experience living outside your home country for nonGerman applicants. The position requires a great deal of independence and selfmotivation. The candidate should be able to work with little supervision, but also be able to contribute to the team effort.
