Qantas Airways shifting capacity to take advantage of tourism rise

Qantas Airways is repositioning its business to benefit from an expected increase in tourism now that the mining boom has ended and will consider rebuilding relations with Tourism Australia, says the airline's chief executive, Alan Joyce. Mr Joyce said demand for flights in mining-heavy areas like regional Western Australia and Queensland had fallen noticeablely as resources projects moved from the labour-heavy construction phase to the less intense production phase, and as a result, Qantas was shifting capacity to east coast leisure destinations like the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
