The city will move forward with chemical treatment of the overgrowth June 30. Director of Birmingham Public Services Lauren Wood was granted permission from the City Commission late last summer to apply for a permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to treat the plants with state-approved chemicals. The recommendation was echoed at that time by Senior Project Engineer Derek Stratelak, of Hubbell, Roth & Clark, who said that after pricey mechanical harvesting, chemical treatment was the next logical move.
