EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency monitoring the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year We are currently looking for an experienced Remote Sensing Scientist to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! The Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division in EUMETSAT is tasked with providing the scientific expertise required to develop, implement, validate, maintain and evolve the operational observational products for all EUMETSAT satellites and agreed third party missions, as well as establishing the user requirements for future EUMETSAT satellite programmes. Within the Optical Imagery Competence Area OI CA of the division, the Remote Sensing Scientist Optical Imagery FCI is responsible for the scientific support of Level1 and Level2 products for imagery missions, with a particular focus on the Meteosat Third Generation MTG Flexible Combined Imager FCI mission. FCI is the successor instrument to the current SEVIRI instruments on the Meteosat Second Generation MSG satellites, and these FCI products will support the regional and global Numerical Weather Prediction and the Nowcasting communities across Europe well into the 2040s. Level2 products consist of geophysical properties extracted from satellite imagery data. What youll be doing Manage and lead a team of scientists and coordinate activities supporting VISIR imaging missions of MTG and EUMETSAT Polar Satellite Second Generation EPSSG Lead the maintenance and evolution of the Level2 meteorological products from optical imagers Deliver the direct scientific support to the MTG Programme for the MTG Flexible Combined Imager FCI Mission, in close cooperation with EUMETSAT scientists Support the Reference Processor development at Level1 and Level2 products, the generation of test data, specification of related test scenarios and related test and monitoring Tools for the FCI Mission Support the FCI commissioning activities, including the verification and validation of the Operational Processors, and the overall FCI CalVal activities Conduct internal studies andor manage external studies on the definition of meteorological products and candidate algorithms from satellite observations with imaging instruments. Skills and Experience Solid background in atmosphericmeteorological optical remote sensing, radiative transfer, and remote sensing physics of the atmosphere Experience in developing scientific applications software, together with strong programming skills, Track record of pursuing scientific development projects, including the related research and development, as well as project management skills Experience with the use of satellite data and products in meteorological applications, as well as processing of meteorological satellite imagery data Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation, coupled with good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams Strong interpersonal skills and teamorientation Experience in working with atmospheric and meteorological user communities and researchers.
