University of Surrey Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences Surrey Space Centre Research Fellow The Surrey Space Centre SSC, part of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a worldclass institution for space research. The successful candidate will join one of the largest space systems groups in Europe under the guidance of Prof. Vaios Lappas. One of SSCs projects is RemoveDebris, expected to demonstrate the first successful capture of debris in space utilising a net and harpoon. The Research Fellow is expected to additionally work on other related ESA, EU and industrially funded space projects. This 24 month post ideally requires somebody with 3 years experience in mechanical design for CubeSats microsatellites or a similar area. The candidate will have good knowledge of structural design, a significant experience in CAD modelling and ideally will have worked on an active satellite mission in this capacity. Experimental structural skills are required as a higher priority to theoretical structural analysis knowledge. In addition, the candidate will have knowledge of procurement, manufacture, experimental setup, testing and experience with assembly, integration, testing AIT, FEA.
