University of Surrey Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences Surrey Space Centre Research Fellow The Surrey Space Centre SSC, part of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a worldclass institution for space research. The successful candidate will join one of the largest space systems groups in Europe under the guidance of Prof. Vaios Lappas. One of SSCs projects is RemoveDEBRIS, expected to demonstrate the first successful capture of debris in space utilising a net and harpoon. The Research Fellow is expected to additionally work on other related ESA, EU and industrially funded space projects. This 24 month post ideally requires somebody with 2 years experience in systems engineeringproject management for CubeSats microsatellites or a similar area. The candidate will have prior experience of managing projects and ideally will have worked on an active small satellite satellite mission. They will have good knowledge of planning, scheduling, resource allocation, interfacing and directing project partners, communication and dissemination. From a technical perspective the candidate will be capable of performing high level tradeoffs for system design and will have some knowledge of procurement, launcher selection, launch process, manufacture, assembly, integration, testing AIT, electrical and mechanical subsystems.
