A Rover Systems Engineer is required with several years of engineering experience in the field of mobile robotic platforms and subsystems in space, from design and development, through the launch and cruise phases, to EDL and surface operations. The Key Person shall be responsible for overall system engineering tasks associated with the rover platform, the scientific payload and the drill. In this area of work, the tasks will typically include Requirements and function definition Interface specification and control Design trades and documentation Resource, margin and risk management Verification and validation In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, the Consultant should have as a prerequisite Several years of professional experience in robotic projects Understanding of interplanetary missions preferably surface landers Applied systems engineering knowledge in one or more of the following fields mechanical, thermal, power, telecommunications and payloads Autonomous surface navigation using visual terrain maps Excellent conceptual and analytical skills Working knowledge and experience in the following areas would be considered an advantage Handson experience in space system integration and testing Experience with scientific instrumentation optimized for planetary exploration Knowledge of the design and development lifecycle of science missions and payloads Working in an international framework The Key Person shall have good communications skills, to allow the effective communication of information under a variety of circumstances. Heshe should be used to working proactively within a small team, being able to work with the minimum of supervision. The variety of the tasks and the scope and complexity of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The ability to perform under very high workloads and adapt to a rapidly changing environment is essential, conducting all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner and working calmly and correctly under stress.
