Some dealers such as Nissan, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Honda have gained experience in servicing hybrid and electric vehicles, through certainly not all the dealerships in these networks have been active. The sales are still limited, especially for EVs, but they are gaining enough presence to upgrade the service levels and keep the buyers coming back.
SAE International just issued a certification credential with Automotive Research and Design for professionals handling these green vehicles. SAE International Advanced HEV Diagnostics Certificate of Competency provides the training in support of this certificate. Its there for service technicians, engineers, shop owners, instructors, and other automotive professional sectors.
The program will also prepare service techs to gain ASE certification in Hybrid Vehicle Systems available in 2014. Classes in 2013 are limited to 20 participants in five cities.
