(Telecompaper) Korean operator SK Telecom has claimed a world first with the development of LTE-Advanced 3 Band Carrier Aggregation technology. This sees the use of three spectrum bands, 20MHz plus 10MHz plus 10MHz, to support speeds of up to 300Mbps. Once supporting chipsets and end-user devices are developed LTE-Advanced 3 band CA is expected to be commercialized at the end of 2014. SK said it plans to play a "pivotal role" in the standardisation of the technology. It will show LTE-Advanced 3 band CA at MWC in Barcelona next month, demonstrating 450Mbps LTE-Advanced by aggregating three 20-MHz carriers. The operator uses frequencies in the 2,600, 800 and 2,100 MHz bands for the service. LG Uplus also announced it plans to roll out the tri-band LTE-A service in 2014, Yonhap news agency reported.
