SLI steps up governance watch on VW and Shell

Standard Life Investments has said it will step up its engagement with management at Volkswagen and Royal Dutch Shell over corporate governance issues. In its annual governance and stewardship report SLI says it continues to be worried about a lack of independence on the German carmaker's committees and supervisory board, where former chief financial officer Hans Dieter Poetsche is the chairman, in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal.
