SME announced that board member Susan Smyth, PhD, was appointed to the 2013 Manufacturing Council, which is a private sector committee that advises the Secretary of Commerce on U.S. manufacturing sector. As director of the Manufacturing Systems Lab in General Motors Company, Dr. Smyth is responsible for creation of GM's global advanced manufacturing strategies and oversees innovation and implementation of GM's advanced manufacturing portfolio.
