(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics reported revenues from its mobile phone business of KRW 35.20 trillion for the third quarter, up from KRW 28.40 trillion a year earlier. Revenues rose 2 percent compared to Q2, and Samsung said it increased shipments on a quarterly basis thanks to higher shipments of mass market devices and stable smartphone sales. Overall the smartphone/tablet market grew in high single digits, thanks to new device launches, Samsung said. Its own tablet shipments were up sharply thanks to the Tab 3 series launch, although the company did not provide any unit figures. A greater focus on mid-range and high-end devices helped the company improve profitability, it said. Operating profit at the mobile division was KRW 6.70 trillion, a 7 percent sequential increase and 19 percent more than a year ago. Samsung said it expects healthy mobile growth to continue in Q4, thanks to year-end holiday sales and promotions.
