(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics has announced sales of over 800,000 of its Galaxy Gear smartwatches since the new device launched two months ago. The company said Gear sales have been better than its own expectations and it would expand sales promotions for the wearable device for the year-end holiday sales, Reuters reports.
Priced at around USD 300, the Gear works as an accessory to a Galaxy smartphone, with a small OLED screen offering basic functions like message and call notifications. The device has been offered free or at discounted prices in several countries to customers buying the Galaxy Note 3 from Samsung. The Gear worked initially only with the Note 3 and Samsung has been gradually expanding compatibility with other devices in the Galaxy range.
