(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics announced at Mobile World Congress the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5. The flagship smartphone offers the latest technical specifications, including a 5.1-inch Full HD Super Amoled screen, 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.4.2, 16 megapixel back camera and 2.1 megapixel front camera, 2,800 mAh battery, 2 GB RAM and 16 or 32 GB internal storage, plus a microSD card slot supporting up to 64 GB additional storage. For connectivity, it offers LTE CAT 4 to support a wide range of spectrum bands at up to 150/50 Mbps, as well as dual-band Wi-Fi with 2x2 MIMO. In addition, the new Download Booster Wi-Fi technology accelerates the data speed by bonding Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously. In line with other premium devices on the market, Galaxy S5 offers a range of new camera features, including what Samsung claims is the fastest autofocus at 0.3 seconds and the High Dynamic Range to reproduce natural light and a wide range of colours. The video recorder also supports Ultra HD at 30 fps. In terms of design, the Galaxy S5 features a perforated pattern on the back cover for a "modern glam look". The sleek, contoured shape will be available in a choice of black, white, blue or gold, and the smartphone also offers IP67-level resistance to dust and water. Finally, Samsung added the Finger Scanner for biometric authentication using a fingerprint, and the Ultra Power Saving Mode to power down the display to black and white and limit active functions in order to save on battery. The Galaxy S5 will launch in April worldwide.
