Applications from women are encouraged. POST Senior Safety Systems Engineer in the Independent Safety Office, Product Assurance and Safety Department, Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The Independent Safety Office is the safety review and certification authority for International Space Station ISS payloads and systems and is also responsible for nuclear and reentry safety space debris mitigation regulations and compliance planetary protection regulations and compliance. The Senior Safety Systems Engineer reports to the Head of the Independent Safety Office and is responsible for the following duties Supporting the Head of the Independent Safety Office in the development and maintenance of relevant safety policies, requirements and standards Coordinating the definition of safety requirements as well as reviews for crew transportation systems and future Human Spaceflight missions in cooperation with international partners Coordinating engineering activities in the field of Human Spaceflight Safety and Nuclear Safety and ensuring the management and distribution of these activities to the relevant areas of expertise within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC Participating in the activities of the ESA Safety Review Panel ESRP for ISS Systems and Payloads as senior Product Assurance and Safety Engineering representative Contributing to the continuous improvement of working procedures in order to increase ESRP efficiency Developing and maintaining the expertise and technical competence of ESRP members to meet current and future needs of human spaceflight activities Contributing to a positive and motivating working environment for the ESRP team and coordinating the workforce allocated to ESRP activities Liaising with the NASA ISS engineering team to ensure a common understanding and interpretation of safety requirements, hazard control implementation and verification and resolution of Non Conformance Reports NCRs Providing technical guidance to the ESA ISS System and Payload projects in the interpretation of safety requirements, identification of hazard causes, implementation of hazard controls and their verification Assisting the Head of the Independent Safety Office in carrying out other activities within the responsibilities of the Office. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering. Solid experience in the space field, including a background in spacecraft system engineering and human spaceflight safety is required. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines. Applicants should also have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 24 November 2016.
