Sky to launch MVNO in 2016, partners with O2

2015-01-29 12:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) BSkyB has confirmed plans to enter the mobile services market with a wholesale deal on the O2 UK network. Sky signed a multi-year deal for access to 2G, 3G and 4G services on the O2 network and said it plans to launch mobile services for customers in 2016. Sky already claims the number-two position in the fixed broadband market with over 5 million customers. The addition of mobile is expected to help it compete better in the rapidly consolidating UK market and introduce quad-play bundles along with its fixed and pay-TV services. Almost 40 percent of its customers already take triple-play plans, and Sky counts some 5.7 million registered users for its 'TV Everywhere' service Sky Go. The mobile TV app offers up to 70 live channels and a wide range of on-demand content.
