Smithfield Foods says profits more than quadrupled

Smithfield Foods Inc. said Friday that its third-quarter profit more than quadrupled from the year before, thanks to tight supplies of hogs and market-share gains for its packaged meat products. The Smithfield-based company, which was bought by China's WH Group Ltd. last year, said its net income for the period ended Sept.
