2013-10-15 11:24:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Finnish games developer Supercell has agreed to sell a 51 percent stake in the company to Japan's Softbank and GungHo Online Entertainment, another games developer, for a total USD 1.5 billion. GungHo, which already works with Supercell on some platforms, will put up 20 percent of the investment. Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen said the company holding the controlling stake will be based in Finland. The investment from Softbank is expected to accelerate the global growth of the maker of 'Clash of Clans'. Started in 2010, Supercell focuses on games for tablets and has already raised over USD 100 million in financing from private firms such as Index Ventures, Accell Partners, Atomico and Initial Capital.
