The Mission Our customer is an independent intergovernmental organisation created in 1986 to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites. Around 300 staff and a similar number of consultants are working on location in Darmstadt, Germany, cooperating in the operation of a variety of geostationary and low earth orbiting observation satellites for weather and climate monitoring. The Challenge We are looking for a Software Engineer Monitoring and Control Subsystem MTG to be located at the customer site, in Darmstadt, Germany. The Software Engineer MTG would join Terma GmbHs activity as a full time employee, providing engineering support for the Meteosat Third Generation mission operation system MTG MCS, which will be based on the SCOS 2000 architecture. Typical tasks include Support the maintenance of MTG mission operations facility requirement specification in the area of monitoring and control system. Liaison with the operational users for the definition of the requirements baseline Monitoring the MTG MCS procurement Support the MTG ground segment team, the mission operations facility manager and the ground segment manager Interact with suppliers and partner organisations Participation to the reviews for the monitoring and control subsystem and interfacing facilities Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings Maintenance i.e. mainly configuration and installation of the SCOS 2000 MCS demonstrator installed for familiarisation of the operations preparation team with the mission operations facility MCS Analysis, review and generation of any relevant MTG documentation Maintenance and evolution of mission operations facility Java Eclipse RCP RAP based tools established in the frame of Phase B. At a later stage in the programme, additional tasks may be requested Participation test conduction and or witnessing to MTG monitoring and control subsystem facilities testing and related activities on facility as well as on system level Analysis of test results and test reports on facility as well as on system level in particular with respect to their suitability for requirement verification and validation Installation of the MTG monitoring and control subsystem, while fulfilling the configuration management requirements Verification of correct facility installation Monitor and, where applicable, steer the lifecycle for all related anomaly and nonconformance reports. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in January 2014. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Essential skills are A university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. 5 years experience with mission control subsystem specifications development and or procurement within a space system. 5 years in depth experience with SCOS 2000 based monitoring and control subsystems. 5 years experience with the ECSS Packet Utilization Standard PUS. 5 years experience with TM TC database design, implementation and testing. 5 years experience with SCOS 2000 based onboard software function. 5 years experience with assembly, integration and validation related activities e.g., test procedure generation, requirements verification and validation. 5 years experience with Eclipse RCP RAP. 5 years experience with Java, C and C. 5 years experience with UNIX operating system usage. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing is mandatory. Desirable skills are Experience with the ECSS Space Engineering Standards, in particular those related to mission control Experience with IBM DOORS Experience with operations preparation Experience with automation i.e. procedures activation and execution Experience with spacecraft simulators based on SIMSAT Experience with ground segment monitoring control Experience with SCOS 2000 based monitoring and control subsystem maintenance Experience with geostationary spacecraft routine operations Experience with the CVS version control software Experience with configuration control software e.g. Dimensions Previous knowledge of the Meteosat Third Generation or, alternatively of the Meteosat Second Generation Previous successful consultancy to EUMETSAT or engagement with other, similar organization Knowledge of quality management and maintenance procedures as implemented at EUMETSAT Basic French language ability. A goal oriented attitude with a good level of communication skills and the ability to work effectively and independently in a flexible integrated team, including during periods of high pressure are all among the traits we are looking for.
