It has now been over 30 years that comprehensive CS solutions for space systems and applications, both on the ground and in space, have been part and parcel of this odyssey. Our German activities grow at fast pace and to face our costumers high level expectations and needs, we are looking for talented profiles having relevant experience in Space Surveillance and Tracking Engineering for the European Space Operation Centre in Darmstadt. TASKS The SST engineers shall possess a proven expertise in the field of SST, celestial mechanics, space object observation techniques and related data processing, and need to have demonstrated experience in the testing, integration and validation of large and complex software systems. They must have a good knowledge of software engineering aspects, requirements engineering, as well as documentation skills, and experience with quality assurance. The SST engineers shall have a good expertise of the PCLinux environment, network services and protocols, and webbased frontends. The SST engineers shall be proficient in shell scripting languages, Fortran 77 andor 90, C andor C, Perl, Python and JavaScript. The applicable software requirements including interface and performance requirements shall be elaborated jointly with the staff of the Space Debris Office as part of the support activity. Evolution of the software requirements throughout the support phase shall be accounted for. The use of COTS items in the development requires prior approval by the Agency. Relevant documentation, software engineering, testing and quality requirements applied by the Space Debris Office shall be followed. All Intellectual Property Rights IPR of deliverables software, including but not limited to related documentation, scripts, makefiles, object code, executables developed or altered under this contract shall be andor remain with ESA. All software including scripts, makefiles, object code, executables, provided by the Agency under this contract, shall be checked by the contractor for IPR issues and all necessary actions shall be taken by the contractor to ensure that the full IPR continue to remain with ESA. Acceptance criteria content of technical milestones, exact software requirements and schedule shall be defined jointly with the staff of the Space Debris Office as part of the service delivery, during quarterly meetings. Achievements shall be documented in the monthly reports on the grounds of which the nondevelopment related parts of the service are accepted. Acceptance Testing of software developed by the contractors will be carried out by ESA and will cover verification that the requirements that were specified jointly during the support period for the given software are met reliability checks, via extended duration tests All software including scripts, makefiles, object code, executables and documents used, developed or modified under this contract shall be considered confidential and not be distributed outside the Agency without prior authorisation by the head of the Space Debris Office. PROFILE Knowledge required includes University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics Skills to apply their knowledge to develop solutions to technical mathematical and dynamical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions using e.g. Unix andor Linux scripting languages, Fortran 77 andor 95, C Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarityexperience with Space Debris operations engineering tasks Experience dealing with external interfaces Experience with OracleSolaris andor Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. The working language for the position is English and therefore the keyperson must be able to work effectively in this language.
