SRONs mission is to bring about breakthroughs in international space research. The institute develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments, and uses them to pursue fundamental astrophysical research, Earth science and exoplanetary research. As national expertise institute, SRON gives counsel to the Dutch government and coordinates national contributions to international space missions. SRON stimulates the implementation of space science in our society. The Instrument Science group has a vacancy for a Sr. Calibration Scientist for TROPOMISWIR fm Vac. Nr. 1149 Project description At SRON, climate and air quality research is conducted in the Earth program line. To that end SRON contributes to the definition, building and operation of space spectrometers. The TROPOMI spectrometer is in the crucial final phase, before launch in the first half of 2016. At this moment, SRON is working on the onground calibration of the TROPOMISWIR channel. Directly after launch, we will be responsible for the inflight calibration. This project was commissioned by the Dutch government and the European Space Agency and is conducted by a European consortium of industrial parties and research institutes. Tasks The candidate will perform the following tasks Perform data analysis and reports results Develop algorithms for data processing Define tests for onboard calibration of the TROPOMISWIR instrument Present results in an international team of partners and agencies. Requirements The candidate shall meet the following requirements Ph.D. in physics or astronomy Experience with space instrumentation Experience with scientific programming Team player and communicator Performs under pressure of deadlines Is a natural leader. Employment conditions Employment as an instrument scientist or potentially a senior instrument scientist in this fulltime position at SRONUtrecht is by NWO The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and will be for a period of 2 years with the possibility of an extension. The salary will be in accordance with the salary scales of NWO with a maximum of 6,199. gross per month on a fulltime basis highly depending on education and experience. NWO has good secondary employment conditions such as An end of year bonus of 8,33 of the gross yearly salary 42 days of vacation leave a year on fulltime basis An excellent pension scheme Options for additional personal development Excellent facilities for parental leave A holiday allowance of 8 of the gross yearly salary.
