October 4–10 marked Fire Prevention Week (FPW), was originally launched by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to commemorate Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Each FPW campaign highlights different theme, and 2015's topic was "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm." Various standards support smoke alarm use, including NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, as well as those from ISO, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), NEMA, and ASHRAE.
