Starbucks picks Google, Level 3 for faster Wi-Fi service

2013-07-31 15:40:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Coffee chain Starbucks has picked Google to provide Wi-Fi services in its US shops. Beginning this August, new company-operated Starbucks stores will begin to receive up to 10 times faster Wi-Fi under the agreement. Over the next 18 months, Starbucks will convert more than 7,000 US stores to the upgraded network. In addition to providing faster Wi-Fi, Starbucks and Google will co-develop the new Starbucks Digital Network, the chain's service to provide content over the in-store Wi-Fi network. Google will work with Level 3 Communications to provide the faster Wi-Fi connectivity. Level 3 will upgrade existing Wi-Fi devices and manage in-store connectivity. To date Starbucks has worked with AT&T on providing the Wi-Fi service.
