Steelmakers prep Ala. plant to battle aluminum

Partners ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal are spending $80 million to outfit the Calvert, Ala., plant to do, as industry newsletter publisher John Packard says, "everything and anything automotive wants." A joint venture plant in Alabama, AM/NS Calvert, is preparing to produce the latest generation of ultra high-strength steel for the North American auto industry.
