This is a permanent position, calling for at least five years experience of storage solutions, storage area networks and backuparchive technologies. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should be available to start as soon as possible. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Monitoring storage, backup and archive performance Investigation into hardware and softwareproblems and performance of relevant corrective actions Ensuring, in the case of failures, that the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition and maintenance of backuparchive procedures Liaison with external providers of hardware and software maintenance Analysis, planning and performance of hardware and software upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between storage subsystems Implementation and maintenance of scripts and procedures for automated execution of the above activities, and generation of associated technical documentation Helping to design future evolution of the facility to accommodate requirements of current and future programs, generation and maintenance of associated documentation Provision of standbyoncall support The key experience and attributes sought are design and implementation of SAN topology, managing Brocade or equivalent Directors and departmental switches Storage virtualization solutions EMC VPLEX or equivalent serving many different types of storage client platforms Enterprise and Departmental storage solutions EMC VMAX, HDS or equivalent file, block or object base Big Data storage solutions Automation of storage services provision, Cloud Storage, Data Analytics Generation and maintenance of technical documentation in English Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Implementation of archive solutions using Hierarchical Storage Management HSM system SAMFS or equivalent High end, automated, tape library systems StorageTek SL8500 series with ACSLS software Implementation of backup and recovery solutions Symantec NetBackup or equivalent SystemService Monitoring using Nagios framework Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
