Our space client based in Northern Ireland is looking for an experienced stress engineer to work on a project for a 5kW Thruster. The engineer must have previous experience of working within the space industry. Job Description We are looking for someone who can do both detailed stress analysis using hand calculations and FE modelling, with good metallic lightweight structure experience. The work is on Space Thruster Technology. Skills Identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. Perform all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. Provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. Monitor these tests and write a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. Present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. To be conversant with and to apply as appropriate, analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to aircraft structures analysis. These will include classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard NASTRAN finite element programme with FEMAP or possibly PATRAN and other pre and post processing software. Able to write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. Qualifications and Skills Nastran and Patran are required and desirable skills would be the use and experience of MathCAD and Femap. Previous Experience Essential demonstrable experience in lightweight metallic structures engineering and detailed stress. Demonstrable experience of detailed stress analysis via FE Modelling and Hand Calculations. Ideal would be experience of composites materials and design.
