Sugar gets even sweeter

2014-02-24 07:32:18| Sugar Industry News

Price of a kilo down by Shs 1, 000 as competition, smaller export market take toll You can now get a kilogram of sugar at Shs 2, 500, the lowest in five years and half the price in 2011 when the commodity hit a record high. The current factory price of a 50kg bag of sugar stands at Shs100,000, a reduction of more than Shs 30,000 compared to 2011. Ideally, the final consumer and the producer should have been happy because more consumption because of the lower price would translate into higher sales and production.
