Shares in Tate & Lyle fell by 17% as the food ingredients firm issued its second profits warning this year, blaming fierce competition in the sweetener market and supply problems in the US caused by a harsh winter. Ahead of the publication of its half-year results in November, the British-based group said it has had to slash prices for its sucralose sweetener to counter fierce competition from the Chinese market.
