The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has lifted a precautionary swimming advisory or ocean beaches at Cape Lookout and most other sound-side swimming areas in Carteret County. Samples were taken on ocean-side sites and the sound-side sites throughout the county and found that bacteria levels had fallen below the state and the Environmental Protection Agency's standards set for swimming and water play.
