Solenix is specialized in the provision of highquality software engineering, technical consulting and operations services in the aerospace domain. This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. System Engineer 1512034 Job Description We are looking for a System Engineer to support our client ESA at their ESOC site in the HEDLab facility based in Darmstadt, Germany. HEDLab is a unique facility providing a representative, reference E2E ground segment and simulated space segment. The integration and testing of ground segment elements e.g. MC systems, ground station components etc., throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, from supplier to enduser, takes place in HEDLab. Also critical mission tests, e.g. RF compatibility tests between sc and ground stations, are performed from HEDLab. In addition HEDLab is the environment where integration and validation of new ground segment components, standards and technologies takes place at any maturity stage, allowing assessment, confidence building and risk reduction for target customer missions. HEDLab is also the platform for Independent Verification and Validation, both at ground segment subsystem and system level. An initiative is currently ongoing in ESOC to enhance the exploitation of HEDLab as a representative environment where Ground Segment components can be deployed and tested, both at subsystem level and in integrated configurations involving different subsystem components, up to a complete E2E Ground Segment. The primary objective is to improve the quality of Mission Operations Infrastructure deliverables, through the identification and solution of problems, both within subsystems and at interface level, as early as possible in the products lifecycle, prior to their usage in a mission specific context. The availability of a representative reference environment is also expected to allow easier reproduction of infrastructure problems identified in the mission context and reduction of the effort required for tests setup and regression testing. The capability to collect and deploy mission specific configurations on each component of this environment in an automated and reliable manner has been already developed and an operationally representative environment has been set up using a GAIA mission baseline for this purpose. In addition to the availability of a representative Ground Segment E2E Integration and Validation environment, the improvement of the quality of the infrastructure systems requires enhancement of the specification of the tests executed in such environment to better address the needs and expectations of the missions. Ground Segment engineering and operational experience is therefore needed to run existing test cases and to set up and define further operationally suitable test cases. The aim is to have sufficiently defined, and subsequently executed, operational test cases, that can then allow HSOG to declare the infrastructure to have gone through a suitable level of operationally representative testing. The ultimate goal is the production and validation of a HEDLab Reference Test Plan consisting of well defined, automatable, repeatable and operationally realistic test cases to be utilised to enhance and extend the current infrastructure tests, giving more representative test results. The reference test plan shall be derived as much as possible from existing tests originating either from the adopted reference mission or from the suite of existing automated test cases of infrastructure systems, reworking them into generic reusable formats. The approach will be twofold, with core MCS2K functionality testing covering primarily noregression of critical functions as one aspect, and a second aspect covering test cases on a Ground Segment system level. The ESA internal HEDLab team has already identified a preliminary set of test scenarios suitable for the purposes specified above. You will undertake the following tasks to further support this work Review with the HEDLab team the already identified test list, complement and prioritise as suitable Document the agreed list of tests and define a plan for their definition and deployment and for each test Required Skills and Experience Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 14 May 2015 Start of Work 01.06.2015 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career. Applicants must be EU citizens or have a valid work and residence permit in Germany. Security, identity and reference checks on the candidates are part of the recruitment process.
