EPSSG is the European component of the Joint Polar System JPS, which is based on a cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA. EPSSG will be based on a twosatellite configuration with the launch of MetopSG A in mid2021 followed by the second satellite MetopSG B 18 months later. Two recurrent MetopSG A and B satellites will be provided and launched in order to achieve a minimum of 21 years if operations. While the EUMETSAT relies on a cooperation with the European Space Agency ESA for the development of the satellite and of a subset of instruments, EUMETSAT will develop and procure a dedicated Ground Segment GS. Existing technologies and infrastructure elements that are already in operation in the EUMETSAT headquarters shall be capitalised as well as the Satellite Application Facilities SAF network. Responsibilities Duties The activities performed by the candidate will be an input for the overall system and ground segment Validation Verification VV activities. Heshe will typically be involved in tasks related to test tools test data, with focus on tools data required for VV of instrument data processing chains. Tools can serve for example the purpose of test data generation manipulation reformatting, test data injection into the ground segment and test data collection analysis. Typical tasks will include Identification of the suite of test tools and test data required to support VV activities, and definition of development procurement approach and associated planning Preparation of User Requirement Documents URDs, Statement of Work SoWs, etc., as needed as input for development andor procurement activities Contribution to the inhouse development and validation of test tools and their maintenance Support for procurements of test tools test data, incl. the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests, also acceptance tests for data and tools provided by partners such as ESA, CNES, DLR Simulation of test data sets for VV using available tools compilation of test data sets using real data from satellite instrument onground tests or inorbit operation Identification of needs for and as needed support for the implementation of an infrastructure to host test tools and data. Support for configuration management of tools test data sets, using applicable EUMETSAT processes Contribution to the preparation of VV tests of processing chains, such as preparation of test specifications and procedures, specifically for aspects related to the usage of test tools and data Contribution to the execution of VV tests of processing chains, specifically for the analysis of test results, inter alia using developed test analysis tools with documentation of the results in test reports In addition the candidate will be involved in other general tasks such as Participation in relevant internal and external meetings Regular review of EPSSG documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analysis to identify information of importance for test tools and data Analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners Support for the preparation of documentation for EPSSG system level reviews Qualifications Experience The candidate shall have an University Degree in the domain of engineering, physics, or equivalent Essential Skills At least 3 years of general experience with onground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation At least 3 years of handson involvement in VV activities for instrument processing chains, including production of test tools and test data At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design, and development and relevant standards Good skills in higher programming languages such as CC, Java, IDL, Python Fluent in English speaking and writing The candidate shall have furthermore the following skills Be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision Have a systematic approach to work Be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks Have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation Have good communication skills verbal and written Be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies Desirable Skills Fluent in French andor Italian speaking and writing Benefits Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities, Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
