Post Systems Engineer This position is classified A2A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. It forms part of ESAs Advance Recruitment Scheme which is established to provide appropriate staffing resources when requirements materialise. Appointments are therefore made for an initial duration of two years after which the selected candidate may be appointed to a permanent post at the Agency. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Systems and CDF Engineer in the TECSYE Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section, TECSY Division, TECS Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The Section provides functional support to ESA projects, performs feasibility studies of potential future space missions using the Concurrent Design facility CDF and carries out technological research RD in the fields of systems and concurrent engineering, as well as developing design models and methodologies. Duties Reporting to the Head of Section and within the technical fields described above, the main tasks and responsibilities of post holder will include providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the fields of systems and concurrent engineering throughout all project phases participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals identifying project critical development issues problems and assisting in their resolution contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agencys technology programmes defining, initiating and managing RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining a stateoftheart expertise supporting the Directorates activities as requested within the Engineers filed of competence contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and knowledge transfer across the Agency. Technical competencies General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position Project support experience in a relevant domain Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation statements of work, proposal evaluation, etc Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews Experience with Space Engineering Standards and their preparation and implementation Behavioural competencies Communication Teamwork Customer Focus Innovation Creativity Results Orientation Continuous Learning Education A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics is required. Additional requirements Knowledge of the following technical domains is required Systems engineering, mission analysis and design, design methodologies and system modelling, concurrent engineering processes and related IT toolsinfrastructure, mission feasibility studies. Knowledge is required of space project lifecycles, including missionsystem conceptual design and tradeoffs, later phases, reviews, requirements flow. Some years experience in one of more of the above fieldsactivities is considered an asset. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
