This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands with resident assignment to ECSAT, Harwell United Kingdom. DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned as Spacecraft Engineer in the Platform Technologies and Products Section, Technologies and Products Division, Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications, and will report to the Head of the Platform Technologies and Products Section. Specific duties will include managing activities related to the development of communication satellite platform technology and products in the ARTES 5.1, 5.2 and 34 budget lines initiating activities related to spacecraft technology and product development for telecommunication satellites in collaboration with the Procurement Department and other relevant ESA departments establishing and controlling relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation negotiating, monitoring and controlling contracts and activities related to technology and product development for telecommunication satellites providing input to status reports of the ARTES activities identifying and defining the spacecraft technology needs of future satellite communication satellites supporting the preparation of the ARTES 5.1 annual work plan coordinating the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management in the appropriate areas of competence and liaising with specialists from other ESA departments, in particular the ESA Procurement Department, to ensure an effective initiation and management of activities participating to periodic meetings with the parent section and contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field of engineering or physics. Substantial industrial experience in the following fields is required design and development of hardware for telecommunications spacecraft design and development of at least two of the following subsystems on telecommunication satellites listed in order of priority structure power solar arrays thermal control mechanisms propulsion command and data handling attitude and orbit control coordinating the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management in the appropriate areas of competence and liaising with specialists from other ESA departments, in particular the ESA Procurement Department, to ensure an effective initiation and management of activities participating to periodic meetings with the parent section and contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 11 September 2014.
