2016-08-04 15:06:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US has passed Verizon to become the fastest LTE provider in the US, according to the latest tests by Open Signal. In February the two operators were tied for first place in speed, but with an average LTE download speed of 16.3 Mbps in the more recent tests in May and June, T-Mobile managed to beat out its larger competitor, which scored 15.9 Mbps. Sprint and AT&T both averaged less than 13 Mbps. T-Mobile won four of six performance categories measured. Verizon was still first in 4G availability, which measures the proportion of time customers have access to a particular network. Verizon lead with 86 percent, while T-Mobile moved up to second place with 83 percent, AT&T was at 80 percent, and Sprint came last at 70 percent. Sprint did come first in low latency though, with a 4G response of 57 milliseconds.
