This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Telecommunication TTC Systems and Techniques Section of the RF Systems, Payloads and Technology Division. The Division is responsible for the technical performance of space instrumentation and communication systems, subsystems, equipment and technology to be defined, developed and procured for ESA projects and technology programmes. The principal tasks of the TelecommunicationTTC System Engineer will include assessing new telecommunication concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation systems for commercial and governmental telecommunications mobile, fixed, data relay, for both space and ground segment assessing new TTC and security concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation systems for telecommunications, navigation, scientific and Earth observation missions analysing, defining, specifying and developing key telecommunication and TTC subsystems exploiting advanced techniques from architecturealgorithms to detailed design for future space communications elements generating technical requirements and statements of work for the tasks to be performed by industry from early conceptual studies to full development of hardware supporting ESA projects, particularly with regard to system aspects and the development and testing of telecommunication systemssubsystems, TTC transponders and security modules monitoring technical tasks carried out by external consultancies participating in international standardisation bodies supervising students and trainees working on subsystem analysis involving computer simulations, digital equipment testing and supporting activities in general contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree in telecommunications engineering, complemented with several years of industrial work experience in the field of complex digital communications and TTC systems, subsystems and networks. Knowledge of digital signal processing theory, techniques for secure communications and telecommunication protocols, including simulation tools, is required. Familiarity with the development of modem and TTC transponder hardware, as well as with the related qualification and testing process, would be an asset. Familiarity with modern satellite telecommunications and TTC standards would also be an asset. Candidates should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. They should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 22 October 2014.
