Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking to recruit an experienced Telecommunications Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC establishment in Noordwijk, in the Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to the Telecommunications and TTC Systems Technology Section within the Directorate of Technology Quality Engineering. The Sections activities cover Provision of engineering support in the telecommunicationsTTC domain to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Preparation of InvitationtoTender related to ESA RD programmes and follow up of the subsequent RD activities. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation, and testing for technological demonstration projects run within the Directorate. The position tasks include Satellite modem physical and link layer analysis, design, prototyping and testing. Satellite communication systems network analysis and simulations. Support the preparation of the Sections RD technology roadmaps in the area of telecom systems and networks. Support the Sections telecom laboratory activities. The requested start of work is 1st October 2018. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a Masters degree in Telecommunications Engineering with particular emphasis on digital communication system and subsystem techniques, highspeed processing techniques for communication via satellites. Essential skills are Strong technical background in telecommunication engineering and knowledge of the relevant communication protocols. Knowledge of the main satellite and wireless terrestrial telecom standards. Experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design with particular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Strong knowledge and experience in the simulation of complex telecom links at physical and MAC layers. Experience with simulation techniques and tools e.g. Matlab and CC programming languages. Additional assets are Experience with RD activities and technology development programmes. Familiarity with the applicable space standards ECSS series. Familiarity with industrial procurement processes e.g. SoW production. Soft skills Fluency in English, both in speech and writing, with excellent communication, reporting and presentation skills Ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities and projects simultaneously.
