Telefonica partners with Napster owner Rhapsody

2013-10-16 16:05:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Telefonica Digital and Rhapsody International have announced a wide-ranging strategic partnership that will convert Rhapsody's Napster service into the Spanish company's favoured streaming music provider. Under the agreement, Napster will replace Sonora, a subscription-based music service provided by Telefonica unit Terra in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico. This enables Napster to enter the lucrative Latin American market for the first time. Telefonica, meanwhile, is set to gain a minority stake in Rhapsody International as part of the deal, and will be able to bundle Napster, which offers unlimited access to over 20 million tracks, into the Firefox OS phones sold by its European and Latin American units, including O2 in northern Europe, Movistar in Spain and Latin America and Vivo in Brazil.
