(Telecompaper) Telefonica has finally opted to use O2 as the brand name for the low-cost Spanish MVNO offering it's preparing to counter the rise of rival Masmovil, reports Europa Press. The O2 brand is currently used by Telefonica's UK and German operations and will join the company's two other Spanish commercial brands, Movistar and Tuenti. Previous reports indicated that the low-cost brand will be headed by Pedro Serrahima, the newly-recruited founder and former CEO of Spanish MVNO Pepephone, and will begin operations after the summer.
