The addition of four new mills to the country\'s plant inventory has helped the Thai sugar industry to achieve new daily production records during the first half of January. On January 6, the country\'s 50 mills crushed an all-time high of 963,000 tonnes of sugarcane, compared with last year\'s record of 860,000 tonnes achieved on January 13. This was followed by a daily production record for sugar of 97,222 tonnes, raw value, on January 8 compared with last year\'s high of 94,639 tonnes on January 14. Finally, the new production record for molasses was set on January 13 when 41,440 tonnes were manufactured compared with the 2012 high of 37,400 also set on January 14.
