To conserve resources, Aluminum Association believes all options should be part of conversation to increase recycling and prevent aluminum cans from going to landfills. Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, and one used can may be transformed into new one within 60 days. Industry wishes to reach 75% recycling rate for aluminum cans by 2015, whereas can recycling rate was 65.1% in 2011. Association claimed that states with strong deposit laws have higher rates of recycling than those without.
