The Latest on the case of a New York City police officer charged with fatally shooting a man in a darkened stairwell of a Brooklyn public housing complex : Civil rights activists are imploring a New York judge to ignore a prosecutor's recommendation that a New York police officer convicted in the shooting death of an innocent man in a Brooklyn stairwell serve no time in prison. Loyda Colon, the co-director of The Justice Committee, says the group is outraged by Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson's recommendation that Peter Liang, the rookie officer who has since been dismissed, be sentenced to five years' probation.
