From a mindset of lowest-cost cow production, the U.S. beef industry is increasingly moving to optimizing inputs. Ron Scott, director of beef research for Purina Animal Nutrition, says research shows that proper nutrition of the cow in all trimesters of gestation is not only more cost-effective in the long run, but critical for the health, well-being and development of the fetus and eventual calf.
