Post Thermal Engineer This post is classified A2A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Thermal Engineer in the Thermal Control Section, Thermal Division, Mechanical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The Thermal Control Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD in the thermal domain, including in particular twophase heat transport, cryogenics, and thermal protection. Duties Reporting to the Head of Section and within the technical fields described above, the main tasks and responsibilities of the post holder will include providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of thermal control throughout all project phases the post holder will be expected to contribute in particular the post holder will be expected to contribute to Agency spacecraft and instruments requiring the use of advanced twophase heat transport systems participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals performing analysis as required to support the definition of the thermal subsystem participating in thermal testing activities and correlating analysis and test results identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agencys technology programmes defining, initiating and managing RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs, in particular for twophase heat transport systems fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures laboratory activities as required monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining a stateoftheart expertise contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. Duties may also include supporting other activities within the post holders field of competence. Technical competencies General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position Understanding of related technologies, RD trends and the industrial landscape Project support experience in a relevant domain Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation statements of work, proposal evaluation, etc Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews Experience with Space Engineering Standards and their preparation and implementation Behavioural competencies Communication Teamwork Customer Focus Innovation Creativity Problem Solving Planning Organisation Additional requirements A general knowledge of space thermal control analysis tools, e.g. ESATANTMS, is required. Experience with thermal control technologies and associated hardware, e.g. twophase heat transport systems, is also required. Education Masters degree or equivalent qualification in thermalmechanical engineering or physics is required. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
