Mother Nature Network: When a wildfire ravaged nearly 50,000 acres of forest in Andilla, Spain, in 2012, experts were devastated by the loss. The area had been used for decades to study the effects of a pathogenic fungus on more than 50 types of Mediterranean cypress.
